As was the case with Kovacs and Benny, order the Marx Brothers TV appearances direct from Shout Factory and you get a bonus DVD. No vested interest here. Just figured you folks would want to know.

It's a jaw dropping collection of items. Lots of things thought long lost and even more things no one knew about. The Harpo and Chico piano sequence from a 1952 Colgate Comedy Hour is amazing. It's a bit they'd been doing for forty years so it's pretty polished and high energy.

This set is now available for delivery, with the bonus disc and poster, directly from Shout. Just follow the link above.
For anyone with concerns that this would be a 10 hour collection of the Marxes looking tired out and disinterested, well put that concern away. The live segments are something to behold.

There's not a ton of extra stuff on the bonus disc, but the two Groucho routines from The Hollywood Palace had me laughing out loud. Might as well try and get it if you can.

New Marx Bros dvd Box Set?

There is a nice assessment of the Marx Brothers by Will Friedwald in the August 11 Wall Street Journal. Unfortunately he really doesn't go into the newest dvd set: "The Marx Bros TV Collection,", as compared to other non-film dvd releases. Is this the set to own?
