Rudy Behlmer - Happy 90th Birthday!

Post by brendangcarroll » Sun Oct 16, 2016 1:49 pm

The doyenne of classic film historians, Rudy Behlmer was 90 last Thursday (Oct 13) so if you haven't sent him a card and many thanks for all the great books, liner notes, TV and DVD interviews and his peerless research over the last 60 years, then do so right away!

Listen to his great audio commentaries on the DVDs of CASABLANCA, THE INVISIBLE MAN and FRANKENSTEIN.
Happy Birthday Sir!

I think his "finest hour" was the commentary and documentary for THE ADVENTURES OF ROBIN HOOD followed by his marathon commentary for GONE WITH THE WIND!

He also saved and preserved the rare colour home movies from ROBIN HOOD and ensured that the huge archive of production memoranda at Warner Bros was saved!

I had a lot of interaction with Rudy when he was the Warner Bros. expert during the Turner Entertainment days.
We haven't been in touch for a while, but want to join in this birthday greeting. I hope he is doing well.

An interview with him on YouTube.

I remember first encountering Rudy on laserdisc commentary tracks, many of which were Criterion titles that were never ported over to DVD (Scaramouche comes to mind). One I haven't heard, but would like to get, is the commentary he did for Gunga Din, which I believe is available on DVD.
