He got off to a fast start with Bonnie and Clyde, after ten years in the movies.

The first thing I remembered him in was BONNIE AND CLYDE. I was surprised to see him turn up in an old DOBIE GILLIS show. Apparently, Bob Denver was being drafted and Pollard was cast in a similar role to Denver's Maynard G. Krebbs. But Denver was turned down for the draft, and that was the end of Pollard's character. This must have been around 1960, so it was probably one of his first roles.

I read not long ago that the DOBIE GILLIS appearance was the way Pollard came to know Warren Beatty (who also appeared briefly in the show as an obnoxious rich boy) and that they became friends which led to Pollard's role in BONNIE AND CLYDE.
I remember his weird (and interesting) character in the STAR TREK episode as the leader of a planet of kids who died off as they were reaching puberty.
RIP Mr. Pollard.

Yesterday morning i was grumpily making breakfast, and i said to myself "ok, i'll be a good citizen and make my husband some bacon." Then it occurred to me that i often use that phrase and i got it from the Michael J. Pollard character in that Star Trek episode. Funny how things stick with you and even become a part of your habits. RIP.

As a young Star Trek fan, I used to refer to annoying adults as "bad gr'ups" from that same episode (titled "Miri" as I recall).

Years later I was pleased to hear "Tell 'em Jim, tell 'em Jim, tell 'em Jim...." resurrected in a song by the band Game Theory, on the Lolita Nation album.

"Bonk, bonk, on the head" was the standout quote for me from that episode. My brothers and I got a lot of mileage out of that one.
