I watch my dvds on my Imac. When they offer a blu-ray machine that hooks in, I'll get one.
You can get blu-ray players that hook into your iMac and third party software that can play them.

Not necessarily advocating this to anyone who has escaped the blu-ray disease, but you can get a portable player like this:

https://www.bestbuy.com/site/lg-8x-exte ... Id=5852919

$39, USB plugs into your Mac. I use this free program to play them on my computer:

https://www.leawo.com/blu-ray-player/

That said, it's been a little while since I've done it since there's so much via streaming. On the other hand, I haven't exactly been traveling a lot lately, either.

Rats, this link now goes just to a dvd player that specifically says it doesn't do blu-ray. I'm finding myself in immediate need of an external region-free blu-ray player/drive at reasonable cost that plugs into my computer (i'm assuming that my 30 year old TV isn't compatible without herculean efforts, and why i can't get a new TV is a long story ...). Guess i'll start googling.

Yes, same kind of device. I actually saw that one and didn't link it because it seemed more like a promotion that would go away sooner. But looks like I just linked a DVD one anyway. If you have a good computer store nearby, they should have portable blu-ray drives like this, again in the $40 or less range.

VLC should work, I liked Leawo's player just because its controls are more like a physical player.

Here's a NY Times piece comparing them.

Thanks, i'm working from home these days and am in the office today to pick up videos to catalog from home, and they turned out to be all blu-rays. I'm pretty sure i can't get them all done in the office today where we do have a blu-ray player.

cheers

What kind of hookups do you have on your old TV? You might be able to get an adapter or perhaps find a used BD player on eBay that still has the Composite/Component outputs on it.

Region Free on Blu-ray is much harder than on DVD. I just gave up and imported a player from Europe and just use that for RB discs and use my American one for RA discs.

I have an LG adapted to be region free by 220-electronics.com and it's quite simple: other region DVDs play automatically, for other region blu-rays I set them in the tray, then press 1, 2 or 3 to set it to region A, B or C, and the player closes the drawer and is now on that region.

Yay! Criterion has announced the January release of a trio of Bunuel films!

Boo! They will only be available in Blu-ray.

I've been waiting for the re-release of their Bunuel films for quite some time -- all but three have been out of print for ages.

For my Windows 10 PC with inbuilt drive, Leawo's free BluRay software works fine. Plus, it's multi-region.

Heigh-ho! Another month, another Criterion release of a film I've been waiting years for them to do!

In February, it will be The Parallax View (1974), Warren Beatty's conspiracy film. If, like me, you've been forlornly scouring websites for a reasonably-priced captioned version on video, you know the asking resale cost of this film is probably second only to that of The Third Man, and the versions out there are usually not captioned.

I saw a part of the film in the 1970s on TV, possibly only the last few minutes of it (I remember Beatty trying to scuttle along a catwalk; that's about all), and I've wanted to see it in full for, well, it's now 46 years. Really looking forward to it!

The Fellini BD box set contains many extras, but I do not see listed some
material which was included on the previously released individual BD discs.

Has anyone put together a list for each of the included films of what NEW extras are
included, and which OLD extras have been omitted ??????

Thanks!
