It'll probably be the last hurrah for the Dowager Countess (Maggie Smith). Her character got some bad health news in the last film, and Smith herself has joked that the next movie will begin with her funeral.

I thought this forum was devoted to 'Talking, collecting and preserving vintage film' (so it says...)
What has Downton Abbey, the vastly overrated British soap franchise got to do with that, I wonder...?
Or is this forum now a place for any movie news?

Considering that this forum is barely active full stop, and Downton Abbey is kinda vintage adjacent due to its setting, There's no need to be a party-pooper.

I totally gave up on this show way back in season two when Dan Stevens' character was permanently paralyzed for a month or two. Don't blame him a bit for quitting the show after that (he was the main reason to watch IMO, I find Dame Maggie a bit too hammy in this) , from that point on the show seems to be closer to Days of Our Lives than Masterpiece Theatre.

One thing that annoys me are films or TV shows with a period setting where the characters nevertheless display 21st century attitudes and sensitivities. The BBC do this a lot and DOWNTON ABBEY is a case in point. It jumped the shark when one daughter married the Irish (!) chauffeur and he was welcomed into the upstairs set. Hardly conceivable at the time. The family would have been shunned and the King would probably not have popped round for a visit. I had to give up watching CALL THE MIDWIFE for the same reason.
But that is Brits for you these days ... wanting their historical cake AND to eat it with soothing contemporary icing.

I enjoy the program. When I watch it I know that, for at least one hour, nobody is going to say "anyways".

That's, like, setting the bar rather low, bro.
