He directed some fine action movies.

He started out directing very early television. Leonard Maltin did a fun interview with him a few years back on Maltin on Movies and they discussed those early days. He directed The Goonies, which is one of my favorite movies of all time, and he has participated in things like the commentary with all the kids and Josh Gad's Reunited Apart series last year. He seemed to be a friendly, patient and kind man.

Superman remains one of the few good superhero movies, no matter how many they keep making.

With one of Korngold’s great scores.

Ha! Too true.

That said, I saw John Williams at the CSO conducting his scores (and Korngold's scores under his name), and two bits gave me chills hearing them live: the Superman main theme, and the tail end of Star Wars' opening music where it trails off (dee-doo, doo-doo-doo-dee-dee do...) right before Darth Vader appears. Steal from the best!
