Perhaps one of the biggest benefits of film preservation is that when historic buildings (often seen in the background) are later destroyed or demolished, we can at least feel satisfied that they will always be remembered in film and photographs. Today here in Belfast we suffered a terrible loss. One of the oldest buildings in the city centre has been completely destroyed by fire. Built in 1785 the old bank building was a familiar landmark for generations. As of today it will have to live-on in memory, film and photographs.
