Capitolfest provided a weekend of diverse entertainment. Something for everyone. A third day of screenings at the Capitol Theatre was added this year. There were a lot of people like myself who came on Friday to partake so I hope this will remain as part of the schedule going forward.
I really enjoyed Harold Teen and wrote about it elsewhere on this site. How can you argue with Arthur Lake and Alice White in the same film accompanied by the talented Avery Tunningly on the Moeller organ. It was a special event. Charming.
The big surprise for me was a patriotic film called A Ship Comes In starring Louise Dresser and Rudolph Schildkraut. Very timely considering the recent tragic military loss of life. This pic had a lot of impact. I cried through the whole film. I sat in the front of the balcony and bet the people below me thought the sprinklers were on. I could hear the sniffing all around me so it had an effect.
I was "introduced" to Slim Summerville this weekend. I had never seen his work before. He was in a hilarious short called Bachelor Daze which I laughed my way through from beginning to end. He was also fun in The Unexpected Father with Zasu Pitts.
The 20th Century Fox studio tour short featured amongst others comedienne Patsy Kelly around the time she filmed Wake Up and Live which is one of my favorite films. Janet Gaynor appeared aswell.
So what did you think?
