"The Iron Mask" with Fairbanks Jr.'s narration.

When I was traveling, I caught just a few minutes of the 1929 film without the titles, but replaced with a fine narration by Douglas Fairbanks Jr.. I had avoided this in the past mostly because of the difficulty to remember (or just pronounce), the Musketeers' names and even Fairbanks', whose character's name was something like Dar-Tanion?
Checking with Netflix, I misunderstood from reading the user reviews (for the KINO DVD), that I could hear this on the DVD so I put it in my queue.
As it urned out, while it was a nicely restored copy, it only contains a five minute clip of the voiceover. It did provide enough information to locate the complete (but edited) film. It's thirty minutes shorter (some of that from removing the titles), but contains Douglas Fairbanks Jr.'s narration. I found this an enjoyable way to really understand the story. Knowing the story also helps to follow the original film. Here's the link for those who might be interested.

I recorded the version with narration from TV a couple of years ago. Although I quite enjoyed it I prefer the silent version (with the sound snippets at the start). It's nice to have both though and I'm glad they included a snippet on the Kino DVD.
