Susan Orlean's RIN-TIN-TIN.
Susan Orlean's RIN-TIN-TIN.
This new book on Rin-Tin-Tin has at least one error: She calls the Vitaphone process "Vitagraph". And she thinks it took 10 years for sound to take over after JAZZ SINGER(And she doesn't even mention DON JUAN)

Re: Susan Orlean's RIN-TIN-TIN.
I noticed those errors right away, too. However, this is more of a dog lover's book than a silent film book. Since I am a dog lover, I switched hats and enjoyed the story of the devotion between Rinty and Lee Duncan. These sorts of errors often occur when a non-film author writes a book about a great movie star like Rin-Tin-Tin. I was disappointed by the lack of photographs. A pretty good read for "dog people", though, and they can learn a little bit (very little) about silent films as well. I say put away the brickbats and tomatoes.
