Re: Early silent films from LOC paperprint collection
hey, thanks for sharing.
A nice little collection of Edison, Biograph, & Melies films.
The most interesting film was an untitled film that just opened up with a number. "58-208" at the 22:50 mark. Shows a woman getting her mug shot. What's interesting about it is what looks like an early use of zooming in the film. (probably someone pushing in the camera while on a cart of some sort) Also interesting is a short shot of what looks like the actors and actress taking stage direction and fixing their hair that was accidentally left in.
I don't know anything about this film, but I'd like to think that this was an unused film that somehow got a paper copy of it's self made. I'd also like to imagine this film being projected once to a studio head & going "Don't show this to people! You're going to make'em sick!"

I saw a program of films from paper prints at MOMA once. Too bad the copyright laws changed, imagine how many more silent films could have survived on paper!
