Minor in the scheme of things, but I enjoyed doing it:

Good selection. I was afraid Harry Langdon wasn't gonna make it, but there he is right at the end. Even at 9 and a half minutes you can't cram in everybody, so I guess you may expect "how could you leave out so-and-so" comments.

Just one little quibble: Is that really Chaplin at the beginning? I stand to be corrected, but he looks to me like an impostor.

Thanks. I forgot Dolores Del Rio and Laurel & Hardy .... You know I wondered about that Chaplin picture also. The more I looked at it the less it looked like him.

Ed,

Very nice. Most of these photos I have never seen before. I agree that you must nix the terrible Chaplin pic with a different one. If it is Charlie. And please add in Renee Adoree, Olive Borden, and Dolores Costello! How about Betty Bronson, and Esther Ralston? I am not currently on Youtube so I can't leave a response there at all. Haven't been able to create a new account with them yet. Stupid Google!

Thanks.... The more I thought about it the more I realized how many I left out, but I didn't want to do a 30 minute piece or have them whiz by so fast you couldn't see them. The Dressler picture gets me every time.

I had meant to do the music myself but my piano was damaged in the cross-country move and the digital recorder I bought was beyond my comprehension so I sold it. Chuck Brown's music is just about perfect.

Why can't you create a new account??

Ed,

:( I might have to change my main E-mail Address? That is very awkward and it may not do me any good. You also need Alice Joyce, Laura La Plante, Mary Philbin, Phyllis Haver, and Adolphe Menjou among others.

Ed,

A few more, Tom Mix, Richard Dix, Madge Bellamy, Viola Dana, Jetta Goudal, Marie Prevost, and William Boyd.

How can I create any old E-mail address?

I suspect it's not Charlie also.

Lovely video though. Love the music. Would be nice to see Phyllis Haver I agree. Interesting that you picked such a sad looking photo of Clara Bow.

Liked the sepia tinting also.

Had my finger poised over the "thumbs down" button just in case you omitted Bebe--but you did right! Unusually nice image of Boardman. Glad to see that cutie with an attitude, Alice White, included, as I happened just tonight to watch Widow From Chicago, an old favorite.

But I wonder about the wisdom of trying to include "everyone," lest the "too much of a good thing" dynamic come into play.

and Leatrice Joy and Alla Nazimova and Antonio Moreno and Ricardo Cortez, Carol Dempster, WC Fields,

Thanks. An all inclusive "video" would last an hour. I suppose the answer is a volume 2 set....

Thanks for all the names. There could have been many more from teens.

I especially liked the music by Chuck Brown. I would have recorded my own stuff but my piano is damaged......

That "Charlie" pic is definitely not Charlie. Looks like Billy West to me. Otherwise, nice little slideshow!

Very well done!

That Chaplin photo actually reminds me of Tom Selleck doing a Chaplin impersonation!

Do you (as an experienced YouTuber, now!) happen to know the source & cause of those GD ads that appear at the beginning of some videos? Is the individual YouTube poster responsible for them, or have they been inserted by insatiably greedy Google?

The poster has nothing to do with ads. Since there are no fees to posting a video, Youtube gets its money via ads...

Ed,

:) Looks better. You might want to fix the audio so it doesn't stop playing during transitions a couple times. Also could you maybe get rid of the white frame on the Colleen Moore photo? You could crop it off, and make the picture a little larger if needed. Oh by the way, HAPPY EASTER. I spent several hours last night looking for a photo I had of Loretta Young in a Bunny Outfit. Never did find it. Always wanted to work on that one.

The ads are due to the individual YouTube poster, who either put them there, or (for the video bottom click-to-go-away ads) the individual has a royalty agreement with YouTube, so the individual is trying to make money from the video and hopefully get rich like the guy with the box-surfing cat, etc.

And, sorry to be a Grumpy Gus: If people like YouTube slideshows, more power to them. I find them more annoying than useful or entertaining. There are many venues on the web where we can place albums of individual photos which can be browsed at our own pace, skimming quickly over photos that do not interest us, or lingering on specific photos. But slideshows are a waste of the YouTube video medium. I think the only exception is when the slideshow is supplemental (for example, if there is an audio interview with a star, having a slideshow with the interview is great). And of course as annoying as slideshows are, slideshows with ads are even worse.

What's confusing about the source of the ads is that they come in so many variations. The ones I've seen the most of lately are a narrow strip at the bottom of the video, with Google identified as the source. But others, the ones that make me want to smash the screen, occupy the whole video window, & can't easily be stopped, so I hit the backspace key as fast as I can. THESE are the ones I strongly suspect have been placed there by the AH poster, but since I'm not sure, I've been reluctant to unleash the torrent of invective they deserve.
