I have two videos Jimmy Adam's comedies from the 1920's, LOVE SHY and CHASE YOURSELF with music, sound-effects and narration.
My guess these are 1930's reissues. Any one know the history of the Jimmy Adams reissues and what year exactly? How many more were reissued?
LOVE SHY is one of my personal favorites. When Jimmy dresses the dog in a skunk skin to disrupt the wedding, has some funniest moments.

These sound reissues of the Jimmie Adams comedies were done in the 1950's by a subsidiary of Consolidated Film Labs for television distribution, along with the majority of the Al Christie silent catalog. Consolidated ended up with the Christie negatives when Christie went bankrupt in the early 1930's, and they did what they could to make money on these over the next few decades, issuing in 16mm and 8mm to the home market through Hollywood Film Enterprises, another subsidiary, and these television reissues, which eliminated the interttiles and added the narration and music.
The narration seems to have been done by two different guys in the hundred-fifty-plus shorts released this way, one is reasonably funny, the other one isn't. Unfortunately, these seem to be the only way to see a number of these Christie shorts, unless one is lucky to find the complete two-reel versions HFE offered to home collectors, but did not apparently sell as many of as the one-reel cutdowns of same. The quality on all these Consolidated prints is beautiful, they're working from original negative material and were a professional lab. Unfortunately, those original Christie negatives were junked in the 1970's-80's.

Thanks for the information.

If these were still sold to stations during the 1960's, there's a good possibility I saw them on a local channel. Silent comedies always caught my eye as a kid.

The music and effects are well done, very enjoyable. It's obvious the narration was giving information once supplied by intertitles. Nothing took away from the comedy or entertainment of the short.

Yes they do look very nice.

That's too bad. The other Jimmy Adams comedy on this collection is MEET THE FOLKS and appears to be a complete Educational print. Funny short. Would like to see more Adams comedies.
