Dolores Vs. Dolores

Post by Gagman 66 » Sun Feb 03, 2013 1:32 pm

:o Two gorgeous actresses each named Dolores both of them considered among the most beautiful women of their time. Which one has the edge? Is it even fair to judge, given that both were so remarkably different? In some ways Del Rio was probably on a different level than almost anyone else, although, the same thing could arguably be said of Costello as well. So what do you think? These four lovely Slide-shows are courtesy of Basil Nelson.

Not nice to push folks against the horns of a dilemma, Gagman. Strangely enough, & for no reason I can put my finger on, Del Rio has never exactly captivated me; I like her, regard her in fact as a better actress than Costello, but never would watch a picture merely because she appeared in it...as I would in the case of Costello. It ain't, most emphatically, the difference between a blonde & a brunette, because my favorite actress (as you know) IS a brunette.

Having seen then both in a handful of Silents, I am in awe as to how beautiful they are. Acting wise, Ms. Costello, (in my opinion) always is an American in film, Ms. Del Rio could be of any Nationality, and pull off the role she was playing.

Understanding, that Ms. Del Rio went on to have a very succesful career in film outside of the United States. Many of her films from México are considered Classics and deservely so, sadly very few are available with subtitles in English, so therefore a limited audience for them still remains.

After stating the above, I am always eager to take the bait from anything that features these two lovely Ladies.

This Dolores would have crushed them both.

Seriously though both are gorgeous and talented. But I do have a weakness for blonds even the bottle variety.

Oh, no, you're not (I hope!) referring to Costello? Another disillusionment!
