I picked up this Brownlow and Gill documentary series on DVD this week, and have found it an interesting watch, especially as I am not a big fan of Keaton. When a documentary makes you feel you want to go and re-watch something to give it another chance, then it has more than done its job.

The frustrating thing about it, though, is the fact that clips from the films are not named, and neither are most of the interviewees. So, bearing that in mind...

During the section on Keaton's work with Arbuckle, there is a clip where Arbuckle is dressed up as a nurse (at least, that's what it looked like) and he and keaton are basically flirting with each other on what appears to be opposite sides of a corridor. Can anyone tell me what film that is, please? Thanks

I believe that is from Good Night, Nurse (1918). It's a good short, and that is a very funny scene.

The original broadcast named clips and performers. Unfortunately when they released it on laserdisc they seem to have accidentally picked up the almost-finished piece that would have been given to the title person to add titles to. So it appears finished but in fact misses the titles. If I recall correctly it's only parts 2 and 3 that are missing titles, or something like that.

Anyway, too bad that this mistake continues onto DVD.

It certainly all three parts on the Network region 2 release. But thanks for the info.

Apparently, Network DVD were given the wrong masters by Fremantle Media. It's been claimed that these masters were for non English-speaking countries, where local language sub-titles would be added, but they look like unfinished masters to me, similar to those mentioned by Mike, because there are other glitches (wrong shots etc.)
I'm glad to have the DVD, but I've kept my old Academy videotape, which doesn't have these problems.

I can't say I noticed other issues, but then this was the first time I had seen the programmes. Network had a 40% sale off on their website, so I got the DVD + the 6 DVD Keaton set for under £15 between them. I know the Keaton set apparantly has some slightly sub-par prints, but they'll be good enough for me (and at least will play hopefully, unlike the Keaton disc of the Slapstick Encyclopedia!)

Why, when just about everything of Keaton's has been, has this not been released in the US? Or at leaste Region-free? I had this on VHS and then laserdisc, and until recently I have been thinking I must have it on DVD as I've got all Keaton discs that have been released here, but now I realize that I do not. Any rumblings that it might be released here?

In a somewhat related question, I noticed that the Steelbook MOC Metropolis BR is reasonably priced in Europe, but at Amazon.com, it is over 200 bucks. What gives?
