Anyone see this film in Pordenone last fall and remember it better than i do? This is my best shot of what was going on. Maybe someone has seen it somewhere else. Or read the book (ha).

A Czech film, Prichozi A Temnot (Arrival From Darkness) (1921) deserves mention as a very early effort to bring science fiction to the screen. Adapted from one of the very first Czech science fiction novels, Zakleta zeme (Cursed Country, 1910), Arrival From Darkness is the story of an 16th century alchemist Jesek Drazicky (Karel Lamac) who discovers a substance that will keep him in suspended animation—after an unhappy love affair, he makes a dramatic decision to seal himself into the dungeon of a castle, with instructions of how to revive him—which happens hundreds of years later when a scholar, Bohdan (Theodor Pisteck), finds his inert body while exploring the castle that he has inherited. Adjusting to a world hundreds of years in the future from his own era, Jesek is surprised to find that Bohdan’s wife, Dagmar, is a dead ringer for his long lost love, leading to the inevitable conflict over the two men for her love.

There's a brief excerpt from it on Youtube

I could swear though that Youtube once had a much longer version available though it was still incomplete.

I saw it, Lokke. Offhand, I don't remember more details than what is in the synopsis you've posted, but I have digital copy of it somewhere, I could post/send you the subtitles if that will help with more specifics.
