What Happened to Mary? (1912)- Does any of it survive?

Unread post by Gene Zonarich » Sun Dec 21, 2014 5:54 pm

Does anyone know what if any parts may survive of What Happened to Mary?, the 1912 Edison 12-part serial starring Mary Fuller? I believe IMDb at one point stated that it survived in 16mm reduction prints at unspecified archives, but I don't see that listed there now. Does anyone know if it is listed at FIAF as being held in any archives world-wide?

A negative and fine grain of episode 11, A RACE TO NEW YORK, is in the Blackhawk Films collection on deposit at the Academy Film Archive in Hollywood.

Thanks, David!

Is anyone aware of any other surviving episodes?

I checked the FIAF database this afternoon, and found that chapters 5 through 8 of this serial, along with 10 and 11, are held by MoMA. Chapter 9 is at the Library of Congress.

Blackhawk sold another chapter, but only briefly. I'll have to check my notes for the chapter title.

Also, there was no question mark in the title. It was a statement, not a question.

Blackhawk also sold THE WAY OF THE UNDERWORLD , another chapter, in 8mm and super 8mm.

You're quite right, no question mark. I seemed to have gotten it mixed with the title of the subsequent Mary Fuller serial, Who Will Marry Mary? (Edison, 1913), which was a question.

Thanks, Bruce! Apparently that was Chapter 9 in the serial, now held by the LoC.
