Many thanks for this--Robert Benchley is my favorite humorist. I've read pretty much all his books, but this piece was new to me. The writing is trademark Benchley: "The ability of so many of our screen stars to cry on short notice...has been the cause of much wonderment on the part of those who are able to cry only under the stimulus of a clout across the bridge of the nose or the death of a favorite canary."
