Article about Buster Keaton

Post by Rick Lanham » Tue Jun 16, 2015 7:56 pm

Here's an article about Buster, called "Buster Keaton's Cure." Despite the title, it is only partially about the "cures" he underwent to leave his alcoholism behind.

I haven't read the entire article yet. There's at least one photo that I don't remember seeing before (Keaton listening to his own voice).

It's a miracle Keaton survived the '30s.

It's a pretentiously-written article by an author whose viewing of Keaton's post-silent work is ultimately superficial. Since Keaton is probably the most popular silent film star nowadays, he's been extensively written about and sadly much of that writing is barely worthwhile. One of the great things about Imogen Sara Smith's Buster Keaton: The Persistence of Comedy was that she went through the mess of writing on Keaton and separated the wheat from the chaff.
