Silent Movies with New Thought Type Themes?

Post by telical » Mon Aug 10, 2015 9:40 am

Does anyone know any silent movies where the popular philosophy which today is commonly referred to as "New Thought" was evident? Many authors at the time were devoted to it. I'm talking about authors like Christian Larson, Orison Marden and others. It was quite a strong movement (says Wikipedia). One can see a little bit of it in "The Shock" where the main female character tells Chaney, "Just remember this -- anything you wish can be acccomplished, if the thought is
right, and the will is behind it" (around the 11:00 minute mark).

Douglas Fairbanks' whole career?

If you look at his own self-help books, they're pop versions of the same thing, really. And that philosophy runs to some degree throughout his work.

Yes, I was aware of Fairbanks books. The picture in that link you provided makes it seem
the goal of the book is to become a hippie.

Er... no it doesn't. It makes it seem he achieved his goal of becoming a musketeer. It's called period dress.
