Reading 'A Knight at the Movies: Medieval History on Film', by John Aberth, I came across a poster for a reissue of the film, with 'English dialogue by David Ross'. Further checking on Wiki suggests that this was a narration for a 1933 reissue, lasting 61m, and deleting the titles, and narrated by Ross. Perhaps he was dramatising the titles. And it looks as if there was a further reissue by Lo Duca, with added music, in 1952. That is listed as an extra on the Eureka! Blu-Ray, but does the 1933 variant survive?

If you have access to the academic database JSTOR through a library, there is an article called 'Risen from the Ashes: The Complex Print History of Carl Dreyer's The Passion of Joan of Arc (1928)' which details the history of the various known prints of the film.

According to the essay (which is well worth reading for other reasons): 'WorldCat’s catalog records indicate that the Krellberg [1933] version still exists, with 16mm or 8mm prints held in at least five libraries across the United States."

Not sure if my public libraries will have / allow access, but I can ask in the city university. Depends whether I can pass for a student what with being 64 and looking as if I've spent the night in a doss-house. Failing that, I have a lecturer friend who I'm sure will run a copy of the article off for me. Thanks for the info, anyway.
