Identifying a Charley Chase Synopsis

Post by YS » Tue May 19, 2009 7:42 pm

I posted this question on silentcomedians.com but haven't gotten an answer yet, but maybe you knowledgeable folks can help...

Does anyone remember a Charley Chase short in which Charley struggles with a bulky washer and it ends up crashing through the floor into the apartment below? Haven't got much more detail than that. I've heard from someone who remembers a silent one reeler (maybe a cut-down) that was available in 16mm and was retitled "Tip the Washing Machine".

I keep thinking about the elusive "Hats Off" when it comes to Hal Roach comedies with washing machines, but not sure if there are any Chase shorts that fit this synopsis...

Does anyone have any idea which comedy this is? (I suppose it could also be a Paul Parrott short.)

Thanks!

Actually, what this sounds like is the 1926 Al Christie short MISTER WIFE, starring Neal Burns, Vera Steadman, and Jack Duffy.

Thanks Richard! I was thinking this probably wasn't a Chase short - his early one-reeler THE POOR FISH ('24) has a similar husband/wife switch but no routine with a washing machine.
