Not sure where exactly to post this, but since I just received an email from Larry Edmunds, I figured I'd post it here:
100 Years Young, Happy Birthday Carla Laemmle!
Carla Laemmle, Rick Atkins and Robert S. Birchard.
I'm assuming Carla and Rick both will be signing copies of Among the Rugged Peaks: An Intimate Biography of Carla Laemmle.
Bob is slated to give a presentation on early Universal City (in line with his book).

Wish I could be there!
Interesting that Carla was born the very same year Carl produced his first film for I.M.P., HIAWATHA. Two centennials the same year!
I just re-watched I.M.P.'s 1911 Pickford film THE DREAM again last night -- very much comparable to a 1911 Biograph, with Pickford being 100 times more understated than her co-stars and getting a chance to do two versions of her character with the dream sequence. It made an appropriate short before rewatching BLIND HUSBANDS exactly 90 years after its premiere night. (I'd forgotten that Kino's otherwise great DVD of it freezes up at about 86 minutes into the movie and jumps three minutes ahead to around 89 minutes. Anybody else have that problem?)
I'd love to see HIAWATHA and any other IMP's that still exist. Maybe Bob can discuss their survival rate and accessibility along with his Universal City presentation.

Carla Laemmle born in 1909 would have come out from Chicago with her family to be at Universal Studios opening in 1915, her family moved into the Universal Studios land in 1920 until 1938 when her uncle sold the studio, she would know Hollywood history personally she was there 95 years ago and was an insider.
