Blood and Sand Dressing Room Scene

Post by higgie » Sun Nov 29, 2009 7:25 pm

Does anybody know where I can get a copy of "Blood and Sand" that has the famous dressing room scene in its entirety? In the Kino DVD the scene is cut short, and in the Netflix DVD it doesn't appear at all. Please let me know. Thanks. -- Clare

I wish I knew more details. What was exactly contained in that dressing room scene that was cut out? I remember Valentino being wrapped in a sash. Is that the scene you refer to? What do you think was cut?

Danny, that's exactly the scene. Eveyone seems to remember seeing it, but I can't really remember seeing it in the film. I might have but I do wonder if I am confusing it as I believe it is part of the Tyrone Power Blood and Sand. The stills exist of Valentino, but the sequence begins with Valentino behind the screen getting his feet taped up, some coversation and cuts to other characters, then a quick cut to the now fully dressed Valentino exiting with his entourage.

For what it's worth, in Stan Laurel's parody MUD AND SAND a lot of fun is made of wrapping Stan in the sash scene, which makes me think there was more to it in the original film, but I don't think I've ever seen that footage.
