Wasn't it their own factory, making cameras and the like ???
I could use some digital restoration myself...

The Lumières were producers of photographic materials. The factory, at Lyons, was established by their father Antoine. SORTIE D'USINE was indeed their first film, though I believe that there are four different versions of it. It (i.e. one of the four versions) was first exhibited in Paris to the Société d'Encouragement de l'Industrie Nationale, on 22 March 1895.
