Jack Natteford - Hack title writer?

Post by gscottrobinson » Thu Feb 04, 2010 1:35 am

Hi!

I'm trying to solve a small mystery, and if there are any answers it seems like this board would have it. This 1923 article from the Times is anonymous - the author calls himself a "Hack Title Writer."

https://docs.google.com/fileview?id=0B9 ... OGRi&hl=en

I'm trying to figure out who the author is from the small clues he leaves in the article. The biggest hint is that he says he re-titled Griffith's The Battle at Elderbrush Gulch and The Massacre. According to this site (http://www.silentera.com/PSFL/data/B/Ba ... h1914.html) these films were reedited and retitled by M.G. Cohn and J.F. Natteford.

So it seems reasonable that Cohn or Natteford wrote the article. However, neither one is credited with ever writing titles (other than the aforementioned site). The only other clue is that this person wrote titles for a film starring Virginia Pearson. IMDB shows that Natteford did do a screenplay with Pearson - but it was in 1926 - three years after the article.

I'm hoping someone here might have some suggestions - even if it is just other approaches I could try.

Thanks,

Gregory
