I have always wondered about this Russian movie, MY GRANDMOTHER, but was reluctant to buy it because it looks too "avant-garde" for my taste. What's the music score like?

The movie is avant garde and eccentric, but very funny. It's a 20's satire on corporate bureaucracy with tons of sight gags: a man finds a caricature of himself in a newspaper and it jumps off the page running around on the floor making rude faces. A man in an office sits under a sign marked "DON'T WASTE PAPER!" and does nothing but write love notes on paper aeroplanes and throw them at a typist. She ignores them until he shoots himself and falls from his chair- and then everyone runs for it because there's a position open! It's definitely worth seeing.
The score is very eclectic- modernistic jazz with an electric bass guitar. Ordinarily I'd hate it but with this film it works.

I loved the film (I saw it on film with the Beth Custer Ensemble playing live in Boston a few years ago). I have since acquired the DVD.

The score is one of my favorites as well. Not jarringly modern, and very in-sync with the picture's moods and attitudes.

I highly recommend it.

Hi! I just went to the Beth Custer site and orderd the DVD. There is a list of CDs there plus some free mp3 downloads.

For those living in Australia on today's rate it cost me A$29.49 to buy it including US$6.30 postage(air). The price at Amazon and a distributor name not Beth Custer is $39.98 or used from $31 odd plus delivery if applicable(+US$5 fee and $3 postage for export currently).

Buying direct is the go and it is thru a PayPal invoice situation. I look forward to receipt of the disc.
