SILENT "SERVICE" COMEDIES: EXTANT?

Post by Hal Erickson » Wed Jun 30, 2010 11:42 am

Do the following silent military comedies still exist in any way, shape or form?

THE GAY RETREAT (Fox, 1926) Starring Sammy Cohen and Tom McNamara (possible precursor to Laurel and Hardy's GREAT GUNS)

PRIVATE IZZY MURPHY (WB, 1926) Starring George Jessel. Initially directed by Henry "Pathe" Lehrman, then by his assistant Lloyd Bacon.

HAM AND EGGS AT THE FRONT (WB, 1927) Starring Tom Wilson, Heinie Conklin, Myrna Loy. Blackface comedy.

I'm going to be heading to Univ of Wisconsin Madison to do research on the WB-FN military comedies of the 1920s and 1930s. Alas, they don't have any information about existing prints of certain titles.
