Wardrobe malfunction in Chaplin's "His Prehistoric Past

Post by Doug Sulpy » Sat Feb 19, 2011 9:39 am

Cue up the scene where Charlie takes "Helen" out for a swim. As they're struggling to maintain their footing behind the rocks, it appears that a wave strikes the unfortunate actress, causing the shoulder strap on her costume to break. She attempts to wrestle it back into place (with only moderate success) as they make their way back to shore.

Now, who was it that said there's no point going through the Keystones frame-by-frame...

That reminds me of a scene with Theda Bara in "A Fool There Was". She has one heck of a hard time keeping the straps up on her nightie. The gown seems way too big for her, and she wrestles with the straps while taunting her lover. It does not seem to be done to titillate, but it rather it looks like an actual malfunction.
