Trying to identify a silent

Post by herbertfilby » Mon Jul 25, 2011 9:13 pm

Ok, I remember back in 1995 or 1996 I was watching a documentary about silent films, and they had a clip where they were talking about those elevators used to film someone going up and down vertically (like Buster Keaton going up and down stairs in The Cameraman)...

So the clip I am trying to identify was a young man waving goodbye to a girl, and as she walked off into the distance, he climbed a tree and kept saying goodbye. She walked further and the camera followed him up the tree and he keeps waving, and so on. That's about all I can remember.

I thought it was Harold Lloyd, but a few years ago I went though most if not all of his shorts and didn't spot the clip in question... Anyone have any ideas?

That's Harold Lloyd in THE KID BROTHER (1927).

It's definitely Harold Lloyd's The Kid Brother, one of his greatest films.

There is a picture of the tree scene itself on the TCM website - http://fan.tcm.com/_Harold-Lloyd-THE-KI ... 66470.html.

From memory, this sequence was also featured in the Harold Lloyd episode of Paul Merton's `Silent Clowns' series.

THANK YOU ALL! Haha, that's been bugging me for years  I'm glad I know my silent comedians enough that I at least got the actor right.
