In the film version of CASABLANCA, Rick doesn't shoot Major Strasser until the Major draws first. In the trailer, Strasser never gets a chance to go for his gun. Rick says "All right, Major, you asked for it!" and lets him have it.

Don LaFontaine Trailers
Donald Leroy "Don" LaFontaine (August 26, 1940 – September 1, 2008) was an American voice actor who recorded
more than 5,000 film trailers and hundreds of thousands of television advertisements, network promotions, and video game trailers.
He became identified with the phrase "In a world...", used in so many movie trailers that it became a cliché.
he had a hand, or rather, a voice, in 5,000+ short films: original material- his narration- not used in the features being promoted. This figure seems impossibly high, but even if he had but one fourth that output, his totals would dwarf the 700+ film contributions accumulated in 41 years by

One of the all-time over the top trailers is for "Deception" with Bette Davis, and co-star Claude Rains braking the third wall. Hope the link works.

Noticed this the other day on TCM with the trailer for THE WOMEN -- alternate takes and different lines, most notably -- when Shearer says to Crawford "If you're dressing to please Stephen, not that one; he doesn't like circus clothes" rather than the film's "he doesn't like such obvious effects."

The official trailer to "THE WIZARD OF OZ" features many many different shots, and even a cut scene, from the original film: Here is a list:
1: 00:08 - Different camera angle of "The Lullaby League" coming out; actually showing Judy coming down the stairs.
2: 00:36 - 00:39 - The deleted & Lost musical number "Triumphal Procession - Ding Dong The Witch is Dead: Reprise"
3: 00:40 - 00:49 - Different & more lengthy take of them running through the Poppy Field - camera on a track.
4: 00:49 - 00:51 - Different camera angle of Dorothy skipping down yellow brick road - not seen in the movie.
5: 01:37 - 01:39 - Cut scene of Ray Bolger in his extended dance "If I Only Had A Brain" number - not seen in film.
6: 01:52 - 01:57 - Different titling/image/font to "THE WIZARD OF OZ" than is seen in the finished picture - with different background concept; i.e in Technicolor instead of B/W, & of the cornfield scene instead of the white/grey clouds.
There are probably a lot more? But without watching the film to compare the scenes I'm not quite sure? Of course there is also that bit with all the books of "Oz" being thrown about, which was not in the movie.

MAME

shows a sequence from "Open a new Window" (2:27) that's not in the final cut of the film. A pity, as it might have helped the first third of the finished product.

The trailer for the Four Marx Brothers' MONKEY BUSINESS (1931) is almost entirely made up of alternate takes:

Re: TRAILERS WITH ORIGINAL MATERIAL
Can I please ask WHY is it that they seemed to make up the trailers with out-takes during the Golden Age? Was it because these were the bits that were literally on the cutting room floor; and so highly "available" to use?

Re: TRAILERS WITH ORIGINAL MATERIAL
It is because the trailers were made either in-house by the promotions department (MGM/WARNERS/FOX) or by National Screen Service. The production schedules were such that the trailers were being assembled at the same time as the films were being final-edited. Thus, alternate takes had to be used for the trailer negs while approved takes were cut together for the feature camera neg.
Also, MGM and Warner composed original scores for trailers while the other studios used tracked-music either from the picture itself or from studio library music.
Here is the trailer score to Warner Bros' SHINING VICTORY:

The trailer score was composed by Max Steiner, who wrote the score for the picture. In a cross-assignment, Steiner scored the teaser trailer for HOUSE OF WAX while David Buttolph composed the score for the picture. The score to the picture was probably not finished as the teaser went out well in advance of the film's release.
