Hitchcock Cameo ROPE

All the times I have seen Alfred Hitchcock's ROPE (1948), I have been satisfied to note that he makes his cameo appearance by way of a neon sign that can be seen outside the window. Now I have just read in "The Complete Films of Alfred Hitchcock" by Harris & Lasky, that Mr H "crosses the street after credits." I don't have a copy of ROPE to check this out. Can anybody please clear this up for me? Thanks

He's anything but prominent in that particular cameo.
