Lesser Known Titles

Post by Phillyrich » Fri Apr 12, 2013 8:04 pm

I wonder if anyone would care to give some thoughts on two titles I stumbled across at Warner Archives. I'm not familiar with either, but they seem promising.

"High Wall," a noirish title from 1947 with Robert Taylor trying to prove his innocence from murder.

"Vigil In The Night," Carole Lombard in a serious medical melodrama role from 1940, directed by George Stevens.

It's always good to know that the well of old movies I've not seen...never seems to run dry.

I'm not familiar with either, but the second would be interesting just because it features an extremely young Peter Cushing. It would have to have been one of his first roles.

I'd never heard of "Vigil in the Night" until it appeared in the Warner Archive Collection, but I bought it because it was a Carole Lombard film. Although somewhat of a potboiler, it''s very, very good, and definitely worth the purchase. Underrated for certain.

I haven't seen it, but HIGH WALL played as part of LA's Film Noir Fest a couple of years ago.

We ran HIGH WALL at my home theatre a few months ago---very well done MGM NOIR with great cast: Robert Taylor, Herbert Marshall, Dorothy Patrick, Audrey Totter, H.B. Warner and Warner Anderson. Highly recommended!
