Contempary reviews for two of Ophul's films?

Post by Lokke Heiss » Wed Jul 16, 2014 1:01 pm

1949 and 1950 were pivotal years for Max Ophuls...he did a Hollywood film, The Reckless Moment, with middling reviews, left Hollywood for good, and the next year directed La Ronde, which received two academy nominations.

Sometimes a change of scenery can help everyone.

Can someone give me access, or contemporary reviews, for those two films?

NY Times review of The Reckless Moment by that parade-raining bore Bosley Crowther:

Thanks. It's not surprising to find these bad reviews, as they are testament as to how much they were not understanding the social criticism of what Ophuls was doing.
