Why is it that I BUY all of these blu-ray movies and then NEVER bloody well watch them?????? It's like I've GOT to have them! And then they sit on the shelf gathering dust!! I bought "Cleopatra" 1963 about 18 months ago; and I've never watched the darned thing! I don't expect I ever will???? Does anyone else do this? Don't get me wrong; I've watched A LOT of 'em. But just not all of 'em... Probably about 25% I still haven't watched??

I would have never buy in my life that version of CLEOPATRA. I saw it at least twice on TV, dubbed in Spanish, and I would never watch it again.

It's called "ardent collector syndrome". I worked out that if I wanted to listen to all the gramophone records I have, CD's, watch all the video-tapes and DVD's - I could occupy myself non-stop probably for the next 25 years!
I keep telling myself I should stop accumulating, but I've become an uncontrollable addict!

I think I get caught up in replacing DVDs with the Blu-rays, but I'm trying hard to break myself of the habit. The Blu-rays of Foreign Correspondent and Strangers on a Train are better, but not that much better that I must have them. On the other hand. when a new restoration comes along that will add value to the movie, even if it's a movie I haven't particularly liked in the past, I get it anyway. If I wasn't such an impulsive collector, I would never have discovered how much better William Wellman's Wings is than I remembered. Intolerance was a no-brainer, and with the brilliantly restored image and Carl Davis' music I actually sat through the entire feature and enjoyed every second. I have others that I keep adding to the backlog but have faith that I will get to them eventually.

LOL! Oh Don, you do make me laugh... Is that for real though??? ACS?? (Ardent Collector Syndrome)? I've never heard of it but it makes perfect sense!! I look at all of the "Extra's" on the disc via Amazon.com, and then I just compulsively order it! And I've got no money, but I still just put it on the "plastic"... (When I pass over I don't know who will pay off all my debts LOL)... I mean when I read that there were 2 commentary tracks on the blu-ray of "Nosferatu" I ordered it as quick as anything; but I don't think I've watched both the commentaries yet???

Guilty as well, M'Lud. Trouble was, when we first has a DVD player I went very ott, buying films which interested me or which I liked, and they just accumulated. And the huge range of stuff available to buy now or to download increases the problem. At least I can sometimes feed out the non-essentials into my shop and have had several customers / friends asking for films which I have freed (sometimes reluctantly) from my collection. And it can be an expensive habit when the films build up or you see a second-hand copy of an unplayed one at a fraction of the price you coughed up for it.
There again, a copy of SCHOOL FOR RANDLE (1949) was passed on to me yesterday, and I await George Formby in GET CRACKING (1943) fairly soon... Suspect the eccentric Mr Randle's films had few showings in the USA, or anywhere else outside the North of England for that matter. Whatever the virtues (or lack of them) it is good that such films can be made available to a wider audience at last.
At least this habit means that one is never short of a film to watch, the only problems being deciding which film and where the hell did I put it?...

I have several discs I've never gotten around to watching. I justify it by saying that my film collection is like a _reference_ library. There are some films I buy even when there's a small chance I might watch it because it's something significant that I might want to trot out for someone at some point or I might go on some research tangent and want to see it.
I find myself buying too many esoteric discs for titles that I have marginal interest in, but fear they might go out of print. Better to get it now than regret missing it if I want to see it later.
