Bogart's dog in "High Sierra"

As a kid, I loved the dog "Pard" in High Sierra. Great twist by John Huston to write him as the loyal dog who only brings trouble to whoever owns him.
I have read that Pard was actually Bogart's own dog, "Zero." Does anyone know more about Pard. Is this true?

Yes, it was definitely Bogart's own dog.

A key common ground <between Bacall and Bogart> was a mutual love of dogs. Bogart had owned a wide array over the years, including a vast Newfoundland terrier called Cappy, a couple of Sealyhams and Scottish Terriers. In the 1941 film High Sierra, Zero, Bogart’s frizzy haired mutt of indeterminate breed, played the key role of Pard with such aplomb that he was cast again the same year in Law of the Timber.

Newfoundland terrier? That would be a rare breed!

Perhaps Zero was a terrier from Newfoundland?
Lon Chaney Jr.'s German Shepherd played the "werewolf" in THE WOLFMAN (1941) aka Bela Lugosi. The poor dog was later run over on the Universal lot.
