This evening we watched a 1962 film, TRAUMA, which seemed at first to be missing the title and credits. About fifteen minutes into the film, up they popped! Aside from films which had their credits at the end, is this a record?

The 1980 book "Movie Facts and Feats" lists The Return of a Man Called Horse as the film with the longest pre-credit sequence, at 17 minutes.

In the post-1980 era, the holder of this record is likely the Hindi action movie DOODH KA KARZ (The Snake's Vengeance, 1990) starring Jackie Shroff, whose entire back-story plays out before the opening credits, which finally emerge at 28m24s. This doesn't feel so entirely out-of-place, though, with a further 2h20m of action still to follow at that point.

Never saw that one: the first film was more than enough. And I guess the sequence in TRAUMA would really clock in at about sixteen minutes cinema time.

Some movies have no credits at all until the close of the film. Apocalypse Now is one example but there are many more, especially from the 60s and 70s.

Yes, I seem to recall the droves heading for the exit while this was going on. And that was AFTER they stopped playing 'God Save the Queen' in British cinemas.

Our local ABC affiliate used to run late-night movies on Saturday night (opposite SNL) and usually ran the opening credits at the END - so as to hook audiences and keep them watching until the end.

It was particularly odd for films with lengthy end credits to wrap around to the opening again (i.e., SOUTH PACIFIC.)

Scorsese's THE DEPARTED has its main title clock in at the 19 minute mark!
