There are still quite good things on television....
Damned if I can find them.
I don't get why you care so very deeply when other people enjoy something you don't like.
Concern for their souls.

Then you're not looking very effectively, but it really doesn't matter. Do something else. The possibilities are endless.

That is extremely gracious of you, but "concern" is not what comes across. Perhaps it's a wording problem.

You realize, of course, that there are (and were) intellectuals out there who would consider (y)our obsession with vintage Hollywood product to be (a few grudging passes aside) artistic slumming.

Oh my God. (Some of) You people are ridiculous.

This thread has deteriorated into a battle of who’s opinion is better, who’s smarter, who can get the last word in, who’s argument is better/worse, who’s “right”….

Leave it to the self proclaimed “intelligent”, “intellectual” film buffs to ruin virtually any discussion about film. Or in this case, television.

Surprised there's been no great amount of talk about this in silent film-circles (or perhaps not), but just thought I'd say that I finished watching the BBC series PEAKY BLINDERS the other night, and Charlie Chaplin happens to be portrayed, briefly, in season 2, ep. 5.

(A quick google search revealed that there's been some talk of this, as it's claimed in the episode that Chaplin was definitely gypsy. However, I guess just a diehard would feel seriously cheated by the fact that the episode, set in 1922, claims that Charlie was in England that year "promoting his new film" -- well, had it been set in the autumn of 1921, perhaps. Maybe I'll add that on imdb.)

All in all, though, a very good series, superbly acted and directed for the most part. Quite violent though.

Recently watched THE CAZALETS. A BBC series from 2001 sadly truncated to one season leaving a lot of loose ends and unfinished business. Similar to DOWNTON ABBEY with an upstairs downstairs feel but set just before and during WWII. THE characters are from wealthy landed gentry class and not aristocrats. Also stars Hugh Bonneville. A far more satisfying and realistic series and I felt cheated when it finished all of a sudden. A lot more sex and sophistication and happily lacking the over the top soapy dramatics. Anyone else seen it?
