Does anyone remember "Hollywood and the Stars," a 30 minute, weekly tv documentary series from c1960's?
It looks like the new Criterion remaster of GILDA has an old episode done on Rita Hayworth, as an extra.
Is this series available anywhere on dvd?

I'm glad you posted this query because it reminded me of that short-lived TV series which I loved as a child in the pre-TCM-internet-Entertainment Tonight era. I see that there are many episodes on YouTube, which I'm now going to watch, but I have seen no evidence of a commercial DVD release. When that series aired it was water in the desert.

I have and may still have a few on 16mm film. There was a Laserdisc planned but nothing seems to have happened. The late David Wolper produced them for UATV who owned the pre-1948 features & shorts library of Warner Bros. then having bought them from aap(remember their logos on Popeye cartoons on TV?). I think they actually purchased aap as a company as well. Warners wanted the material back in later years and only Ted Turner owning them when he bought the MGM libraries(who had bought UA!!!!!) did they finally go to WB with the MGM material when he merged his libraries with Warner and then Turner's RKO holdings & Turner Pictures floated in and we are the winners in what we can get now on DVD and Blu Ray in usually quality editions.

I also remember this fabulous series and would love to see it again. David Wolper was a great documentary maker. I especially recall his programme "The Movie Crazy Years" - a terrific 90 minute documentary on Warner Bros with some superb interviews, including the only one ever filmed with Busby Berkely. I had hoped to see it as an extra on one of the many DVDs but sadly not.

I've been holding my breath for that one, too.

I saw several of these on a local PBS station circa 1980 as a teenager (not sure if it was run nationally or simply available syndicated to the channels) and remember there was also one just on Kim Novak. At least of few of these were also rerun on a cable channel around 1983-1985 very late at night (around 430 AM) I believe as filler after shorter movies rather than airing regularly. The channel may have been A&E or USA or perhaps a different one. I remember the theme music was quite memorable, or was it just in the silent episode? (I recall a collage of silent greats at the end of the episode devoted to the silent era).

I have a few on film. Love Elmer Bernstein's theme and Joseph Cotten's narration. Ken Films released a few 8mm silent one-reelers. Legal nightmare for revival.
