But is it not dubbed in French then?

Yes, it's dubbed in French (it was relased in this country in 1936 so the dubbing is excellent, not archaic like the ones from 1931/32). In a sense it's better than subtitled, as the image doesn't include text, and if someone finds the original soundtrack in the future... In the meantime the best way would be subtitling this print in English, as it was made for another American film of the same period, DELUGE, found in Italy and of course dubbed as well.

Or (much more difficult) dub it back into English based on the script. New York State Archives have got the dialogue.
(It doesn't seem likely that vitaphone discs would have been made for it, I think?)

Many thanks for posting these. Lets hope some enterprising person can get a transfer of this. Original french dub with subtitles would be fine, I've been wanting to see this for a long time, can't believe it's out there. These are indeed wondrous days.
