Who'd have thought Miss de H. would live twice as long as Errol Flynn? Here's to a hundred more! In honour of her centenary, here is a photo of Miss de Havilland after receiving her American citizenship papers, 7 July 1939. [Scanned from original 4" x 5" nitrate negative.]

Happy birthday, Miss De Havilland. May you see 100 more, but only if you want to.
As part of the celebration, Crystal at In the Good Old Days of Classic Hollywood and Phyllis at Phyllis Loves Classic Movies are hosting the Olivia de Havilland Centenary Blogathon:

I can't believe the IMDB has no mention of her 100th today.

Apparently their birthday choices are based in how active their pages are, and since Miss De Havilland is not in any Transformer movies, she is not on the list. However, there is a poll on the subject of her.
I just double checked. Right on the front page is a story wishing her a happy hundredth birthday and linking to a gallery of pictures.

My wife didn't believe me when I told her Olivia De Havilland was still alive.

The British 'Daily Mail' has an odds and ends column, 'On This Day', which includes birthdays (dead and alive). Pamela Anderson, Dan Aykroyd, Trevor Eve, Princess Diana and Estee Lauder made it, but not Olivia. Shame on them!

Yes, Olivia has lived twice as long as Errol, but also twice as long as her "beloved Ashley" Leslie Howard. And nearly twice as long as her "Dear Scarlett", Vivien Leigh, who died at 53. She must have done, and continues to do, something right.

Very sad that this woman is still feuding with her now deceased sister
http://www.people.com/article/olivia-de ... 0-birthday" target="_blank, a very disingenuous interview for anyone who knows anything about the history of the Olivia - Joan rivalry. A great actress admittedly and a seemingly pleasant person but she's always come across as more than a little grand and remote with a touch of a chill, always a "Miss De Havilland" rather than an "Olivia" let alone "Livvy".

People are not as we would have them be, they are as they are. Would the cuddly creature you imagine be able to stand up to Warner Brothers and get those extended-forever contracts tossed out of court? that takes a cast-iron bitch. and good for her.

"Bitch" to me implies a shrewish or malicious person which is not Olivia; standing up for herself does not make a woman a bitch. There may be a touch of a cat paw in Olivia's velvet glove but she is always sure to remain a "lady" even at her most biting. I'm not really a fan of hers, as an actress or a person, but she has to be given her due.
Slightly off topic, Olivia's 1961 memoir EVERY FRENCHMAN HAS ONE, about her years living in Paris, is now back in print for the first time in over 50 years no doubt to coincide with her centennial. I've always believed her claims of working on an autobiography (since the 1980's!!) were just a ruse to attempt to ward off any unauthorized biographers so this is as close to "her story" as we will likely get. Entertainment Weekly surprisingly gave this light tome an "A" rating, certainly it has more than a little charm but that seems a bit much for something this slight.

I agree with her about the press stoking the "feud." You can't read an article about either of them where the "feud" isn't mentioned. They clearly didn't like each other, but both spent their respective adulthoods going on with their lives, making their own families, and probably not really thinking much about the other. It's not an uncommon sibling relationship, but these two siblings happened to be movie stars.
