Larry Edmunds has been around more than 75 years, a mecca for film lovers looking for movie-related books, paper, and other collectibles.

Very interesting. Had no idea of Edmunds's early death, nor did I realise it had been so long established and had had so many changes of location or its featuring in films and tv shows.

I think it's wonderful they kept Larry's name.

Toronto still has the Hollywood Canteen book and poster shop, a really tiny place so over-crowded that most of the time I only make a beeline to the sections I want to look in -- it's just too cramped to browse.

Right next door to it is Vintage Video, which carries exactly the kind of films you would expect from that title, including a whole boxful of Alpha Video silents which are perpetually on a 3-for-$25 sale. It also has an enormous area for the owner's World War Two souvenirs and toys obsession, and another section for comics and posters and a few weird books.

You can't go wrong spending an hour or two in these two places. (Location: Bathurst and Bloor Streets, directly across from the famous Honest Ed's store, which, alas, is slated to come down at the end of this year.)

Jim

A wonderfully informative article! Thank you for posting this!

I became very interested in Larry Edmunds Book Shop when I bought a movie still on eBay and saw "Larry Edmunds Book Shop" with the address stamped on the back. I hope to visit that place at least once before I shuffle off this mortal coil :D

Larry Edmunds' Bookshop is still around, but is really suffering right now because of everything being shut down or cancelled like the TCM Film Festival. Jeff doesn't sell online, but you can call the store and order something to be sent to you. The store is one of the last bookstores on Hollywood Blvd., and the last film only bookstore.

Jeff Mantor of Larry Edmunds has set up a GoFundMe to help survive during this critical time.

I've always wanted to go to one of those shops in CA or NY that sell vintage stills; it would be pure heaven to spend hours digging through the stills although I fear these days they would be asking top dollar for them.
