16 FATHOMS DEEP (1948)
Looking out the 1934 film of the same title, I found this remake, in b/w but declaring it was shot in Ansco Color. Does it exist in this format? I know the process had its problems, having only seen THE MAN ON THE EIFFEL TOWER (1949) in b/w or in an awful colour copy which was far worse...

I have a 16mm Anscocolor print. Chaney looks like he is wearing the same suit he wore in ABBOTT & COSTELLO MEET FRANKENSTEIN.
WPIX used to run this in B&W. It was a childhood favorite. Not sure why!!

Found a grainy B&W version and it's not a bad film at all. Produced by Arthur Lake in the midst of his Blondie series, this Monogram production was filmed in ANSCO color on location in Florida. Lloyd Bridges provides the narration and plays the newbie sponge diver who joins up on an outing under a new captain (Eric Feldary). He's just bought the bought from John Qualen who's been bankrupted by the evil merchant (Lon Chaney, Jr.) who runs the sponge auctions. Chaney has bankrolled Feldary but sabotages the trip with the idea of getting the boat for himself. Also involved are Feldary's girlfriend (Tanis Chandler) who works for Chaney, Dickie Moore (aged 23) as Qualen's son, and Lake as the comic relief ... a tourist who takes a job onboard as a cook. The underwater scenes are murky but effective and director Irving Allen manages to build some suspense.
Just looked and here's the color version:
and the 1934 version:

That color version is an "A.I." job. Marked as colorized.
