Yes, there was a discussion of this in another thread. I went looking for stills which showed a presumed meaning for pinky finger rings (was the character gay?) I couldn't make that connection quite fit. Your theories about this notoriously difficult subject makes more sense.

I just checked for one of the alleged "was he or wasn't he one" cases. Messala in Ben-Hur ('59) has it on the index finger. So... that puts him with the deviants?

Yes, I think that you have identified him. He was not credited in this film.

Wow - a very comprehensive article you wrote!
I seem to recall Alan Hale Jr (best known as Skipper from "Gilligan's Island" also wore a pinky ring, emerald-set, that was given to him by his dad.
Anyways, it really is an interesting subject.

I think Irving Berlin had the last word on Morris Chairs:
