Cinemas have reopened in the UK

So I went to see Nomadland.I could only take it for an hour so I walked out.Nice to be back though.
If that is the Best Film then your film industry must be in deep trouble. No wonder so few people watched the Oscar telecast.

Crikey. You didn't stay for the final scene, where Dwayne Johnson kicks the mobile home to pieces and McDormand runs him down with her Honda Civic? That is classic American cinema.

I didn't think so poorly of Nomadland but about 30 minutes in I was wondering what the heck the story was really about. I guess that you could call it a character-study movie more than a story. Francis McDormand was perfect in it. (MINOR SPOILER AHEAD) But I'm more interested in films where characters have a problem and do something to try to make things better. Her character doesn't have an issue with her life and is not interested in more traditional relationships or living arrangements.

I watched it on the plane on my way to Hawaii last week for vacation, and I certainly saw a lot of vans like hers parked near the beach that had people sleeping in them like McDormand did. I'm sure that the book was difficult to adapt to the screen, so I don't fault Chloé Zhao's nomination there. But I can go another decade without visiting this film again.

Clearly not from Yorkshire, then...

Trying to remember who wrote about always watching plays 'til the end as he'd paid to get in...
