GIACOMO (1939)

GIACOMO is one of the greatest and unfairly forgotten films of all times. Although it is technically a comedy, its genre is called grotesque and it is probably the masterpiece of its kind.

It is a very tragic story... a riches to rags. Turner Entertainment probably has a master tape (not film elements) that they got when they bought a few Argentine cable channels to put them off the air, replacing them with their repugnant pan regional Latin American channels.

Although in the United States it was shown one year after its original release, the only available print is horrendous and almost unwatchable. I did my best to repair its soundtrack and it was extremely hard.

The images here come from the Museo del Cine Pablo H. Ducrós Hicken. Here are production photos:

How good is this film, never to be released again in the United States? As a sample, here is the opening credit music written by Alberto Soifer.

I like the theme which plays quite well considering what you have.
