Stooges, the A popular US comedy team
who appeared in a long series of shorts from
the 1930s to the 1950s.The key to the trio's
success was their skill at a rather basic and
brutal form of SLAPSTICK; with a minimum
of plot or character development, their films
have not survived particularly well. The
original trio, Larry Fine (1911-1975), Moe
Howard (1895-1975), and his brother
Jerry Howard (1906-1952), transferred to
Hollywood from vaudeville; there were var-
ious changes in personnel before the team
finally broke up.
