Serial nitrate fragment from 1918? frame closeups.

Post by Darren Nemeth » Wed Apr 30, 2008 11:05 pm

I have a short 20 to 30 second nitrate fragment that came to me from the UK.

Kodak date code is 1918.

Do any of the actors or the scene look familiar to anyone? I am presuming this is a serial but am probably wrong.

The man to the right looks very familiar but I can't place a name on him.

Something just jarred my memory. Would the man on the right be Wilfred Lucas, Laurel & Hardy's warden in PARDON US?

James Morrison, Leah Baird, and Wilfred Lucas. It's SINS OF AMBITION (Ivan Film Productions released December 19, 1917) Baird plays a wife tired of being neglected by her husband who's obsessed with perfecting a Universal Language and decides to become an actress.

Thanks for the title! Do you know if this film survives?

It's only after midnight on the West Coast. We just wrapped our movie night.

The film does not survive as far as I know, but it was a states-righted picture, so there's a better chance that it might be out there somewhere.

Oh, and for the anal-retentives out there, the film was released November 21, 1917 and copywritten Dec 19, 1917.

Wow, good eye ID'ing the youngish Wilfred Lucas. I'm impressed.

If you still have that 30-seconds or so fragment roll, it's about 500-plus frames then why not try to scan all the existing frames and have it uploaded here like that I've done it before. I've taught 'em how to do it without cost anyone a cent. Witness the universal truth, not put it in your pillow for your own self pleasure. Attached photos is very little excuse element but that's simple a significant way of discovering the lost item. Projecting it here is the best way to sharing the discovered glory thing for us to see for many years to come . . . :)
