Captain Lash 1929 at UCLA !

Post by cawkercitykid » Wed Apr 04, 2012 8:08 pm

I just discovered that "Captain Lash" is listed in the archive catalog of UCLA.

http://cinema.library.ucla.edu/cgi-bin/ ... 2321&SID=1" target="_blank

Can anyone tell me if this is a film is in a good enough condition to be be shown at a Film Festival? Is it even possible to be shown outside the archive due to legal issues? Any info would be appreciated.

According to their catalog, there is a preservation print at UCLA. You would have to contact them directly about their terms for borrowing it (which would also include licensing it from Fox, too).

UCLA has a preservation dupe negative on the film, but at present only have a screening print on the first reel. It is a variation of that Howard Hawks-"A Girl in Every Port"/Raoul Walsh "Women of All Nations"/Fox formula, but from the ten minutes of evidence at hand (I saw the first reel this morning) it is snappier and more entertaining.
