Hello!

My name is Imma. I'm writting from Spain.

I'm looking for a lost film: Martha of the Lowlands (1914) directed by J. Searle Dawley, with Bertha Kalich in the role of Martha. This film is based on the catalan book Terra Baixa by Àngel Guimerà- The purpose of my research is that I'm producing a documentary about Angel Guimerà's based films.

I have already contacted Parmount Pictures and the Library of Congress in the USA. And Filmoteca Española in Spain. They suggest me to contact with private colectors.

Could someone help me in my research?

Thank you very much

Imma

Hello Imma,

I think you have the title wrong. So I tried with the book title and I came up with this:

http://www.citwf.com/film346391.htm

TERRA BAIXA

Film Information
Titles TERRA BAIXA
DEEP LAND
Main Director FRANCISCO ELIAS
Year 1914
Length
Countries Spain
Genre Short documentary
Series

Notice it is called "Terra Baixa" with another listed title as "Deep Land" I would try again with those titles in your
search. Also please note that there was a film in 1907 also shot in Spain with the same title as noted below:

http://www.citwf.com/film351412.htm

TIERRA BAJA

Film Information
Titles TIERRA BAJA
TERRA BAIXA
LOWLANDS
Main Director FRUCTUOSO GELABERT
Year 1907
Length 19 Minutes
Countries Spain
Genre Drama
Series

I hope this information helps you out.

Thank you very much for your answers.

Mike Gebert, do you know where I can find a copy from Martha of The Lowlands by J.Searle Dawley??

Pookybear, I didn't know about the film by Francisco Elias, I will look after it. The one by Fructuoso Gelabert is lost.

Best regards from Barcelona

According to this entry in the Library of Congress database, there is no known print that still exists at this time. 75% of all silent films are lost.
